More than 6 years

Between the Ages of 5 and 6 Years

  • Perform all of learning points for 4 and 5 year olds
  • Identify numbers more than, less than, and equal to other numbers
  • Perform additions with carry over
  • Perform simple multiplication (early concept of groups)
  • Multiply by looking up tables (review not rote)
  • Understand simple fractions


Science

Between the Ages of 4 and 5 Years

  • Understand and appreciate the concept of day and night (Earth rotating)
  • Identify living beings and non-living things
  • Identify the relationship between the Sun, the moon, and the stars
  • Identify the differences between insects, reptiles, birds, and amphibians
  • Articulate parts of a plant
  • Describe Earth and understand the significance of water bodies
  • Articulate the four seasons
  • Understand North, South, East, and West on a map
  • Able to call out some of the states and their capitols
  • Articulate transformation and phases of matter – gas, liquid, and solid

More than 6 years

  • Perform all of the above
  • Articulate the basic anatomy of human body
  • Understand the notion of flight
  • Understand basic notion of weather (basic meteorology)

Between the Ages of 5 and 6 Years

  • Perform all of learning points for 4 and 5 year olds
  • Apply the concept of gravity
  • Identify and call out sources of energy
  • Understand density
  • Articulate causes of seasonal changes
  • Appreciate the notion of a mixture


Reading and Writing

Between the Ages of 4 and 5 Years

  • Familiar with the phonics around each letter
  • Read and follow small words (three letters - spelling)
  • Identify small words out of context
  • Able to identify vowels
  • Able to read simple “Bob” books

 

More than 6 years

  • Perform all of the above
  • Able to reading longer passages and words (with five letters)
  • Write words by spelling those without looking
  • Able to listen and comprehend longer stories.

Between the Ages of 5 and 6 Years

  • Perform all of the above
  • Read early books (including words with four letters)
  • Identify rhyming and similar sounding words
  • Able to spell longer words phonetically
  • Able to write words
  • Form simple sentences
  • Able to listen and comprehend short stories
