Summer at the Rec: What’s On At The Frisco Athletic Center?

For the second installment of the ‘Summer at the Rec’ series, RARE Learning explores what’s new at the Frisco Athletic Center located in Frisco, Texas.

With more than 80 different camps on offer, the Frisco Athletic Center has programming to meet a diverse range of interests. “We offer anything from tennis and fishing to robotic, STEM and NASA-themed classes,” says Recreation and Fitness Superintendent Elissa Malone.

Among the many new additions to summer offerings at the Frisco Athletic Center is a new stand-up paddle boarding camp as well as a ‘magic camp.’ The latter is a unique and exciting program incorporating math and science skills, culminating in a fun performance in front of friends and family on the last day of camp.

At the Frisco Athletic Center, Elissa explains, you’ll find comprehensive programming for the entire community- from preschool age with the Early Achievers program all the way up to offerings from the senior center.

The RARE Learning programs are offered year-round, providing “really worthwhile programming at a really affordable price,” says Elissa.

This summer, RARE Learning is offering their Early Achievers preschool academy as well as a digital photography and filmmaking camp. “It’s wonderful to have some really great instructors in our building year round to offer preschool and early childhood opportunities to the community,” says Elissa. The Early Achiever’s preschool program includes a diverse range of subjects from reading, science, math, art and music to encourage each child’s academic, creative and socio-emotional development.

The photography and filmmaking camps take students to the beautiful Heritage Center where the historic homes and architecture provide a unique and inspirational environment for students to explore their creative sides.

The Frisco Athletic Center, Elissa says, really is a place to explore and discover new interests.

“We try to be a little bit for everybody,” she says.

For example, “if you’re interested in soccer but have never played before, or have an interest in STEM, this is a great place to get started.”
